Wozair has been awarded a contract for the Sofia Windfarm Project, the new 1400MW wind farm on Dogger Bank in the North Sea.
The scope of the project consists of a variety of dampers to assure continuous operation of the offshore high voltage station (OHVS). The OVHS is packed with electrical equipment which generates significant amounts of heat which must be dissipated to prevent overheating and electrical failure.
The project is the largest offshore development that owners, RWE Wind Services, have in their global renewables fleet. The Farm will include 100 turbines, a high voltage converter station, onshore electrical infrastructure and inter-array and export cables.
The electricity generated is transported via a high voltage direct current export cable to landfall 220 kilometres away in Redcar, Teesside.
The Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy’s SG 14-222 DD offshore wind turbines have been selected for the project which are their latest, most powerful offshore wind turbine model providing 25% more power than the next largest model. The turbines have a 222m diameter rotor which sweeps and an area of 39,000m², equivalent to approximately 5.5 standard football pitches.

Onshore enabling construction is due to start this year and offshore construction in 2023.
Completion is expected by the end of 2026 with the full capacity to power approximately 1.2million UK households annually.
